David De Gea praises Michael Carrick job at United | April 2026

It’s De Gea’s second season with the Italian side, you may remember he returned to Old Trafford with them, for a friendly before the start of this campaign.

The 35-year-old left United at the end of the 2022/23 term with our club records for both appearances (545) and clean sheets (190) as a goalkeeper, after a legendary 12-year stint, in which he won the Premier League, Emirates FA Cup, UEFA Europa League and two League Cups.

Our four-time Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year winner told us earlier this season that he would be cheering the club on from afar, and he will hope to see the Reds qualify for the Champions League over the coming weeks, while continuing Fiorentina’s European adventure of their own this term for at least one more game.

United now know that finishing in the top five of the Premier League will secure our berth for the 2026/27 campaign, and the pursuit of that goal continues when we return to top-flight action by hosting Leeds United on Monday evening.
