The Deadlock community has officially entered that familiar post-update phase: curiosity, speculation, and one big question — what’s next?
After the massive Old Gods New Blood update, things have understandably slowed down. But that doesn’t mean nothing is happening. Between quiet developer replies, matchmaking fixes, balance updates, and some intriguing leaks, there are clear signs that Deadlock is still moving forward behind the scenes.
Here’s what we know, in video format as well if preferred.
Matchmaking Fixes Are In The Works
One of the biggest pain points in Deadlock right now has been matchmaking — particularly new accounts getting placed far too high in ELO.
On February 24th, Yoshi responded in the official Deadlock Discord, confirming that matchmaking fixes related to new accounts have been implemented. The message was brief, but meaningful. Recently, players with as few as 10–20 games played were being placed into high ranks like Phantom, causing obvious imbalance issues.
This is a clear acknowledgment from the developers that matchmaking integrity matters, especially as the player base grows. While we don’t yet know how effective the fixes are long-term, it’s a positive sign that the issue is actively being addressed.
Another Balance Patch Is Coming
Also on February 24th, Yoshi confirmed that the team is actively working on another balance patch. There’s no timeline yet, but the urgency feels real.
The newest heroes released in the major update launched overtuned and have already seen nerfs. However, some still feel strong, while a few older heroes are starting to feel left behind in the meta. Balance and matchmaking are arguably Deadlock’s two biggest active problems right now, so seeing developers focused on both simultaneously is encouraging.
This isn’t surprising — live balance iteration is expected — but the communication matters.
Leaks Suggest Draft Mode and Cinematics
Now for the more speculative side, some recent leaks.
Deadlock Project 8
surfaced file references that hint at draft-related features and in-game cinematics. Terms like match intro and hero reveal card suggest that a more formalized draft system could be in development.
Right now, Deadlock’s queue system is fairly barebones. A true draft mode, potentially tied to the tarot card theme already present in the queue interface, would add depth and legitimacy to competitive play.
There are also hints of post-match highlight reels, possibly 20-second clips showcasing standout plays. These types of features don’t change gameplay directly, but they dramatically improve presentation and polish. They’re exactly the kind of additions you’d expect as a game approaches open beta or a more official launch state.
What’s the Timeline for the next Deadlock Update?
That’s the hard part: there isn’t one.
Based on current leaks and developer signals, it feels like the team is stabilizing the game post-update rather than rushing into another massive content drop. Connor previously predicted a March patch, and that still seems plausible for smaller adjustments. However, a more substantial update may not arrive until summer.
Valve’s development cadence has always been unpredictable. What does feel consistent, though, is momentum. Since the August update and especially after Old Gods New Blood, the pace has felt different — more deliberate and more focused.
Final Thoughts
Matchmaking improvements, an incoming balance patch, and early signs of draft and cinematic features all suggest Deadlock is continuing to mature behind the scenes.
There’s no confirmed open beta date. There’s no announced major content drop. But the direction feels clear: refinement, polish, and structural improvements before the next big leap.
For now, the community waits — and keeps playing.
