In the IPL 2022 mega auction, the Chennai Super Kings spent an enormous sum of Rs 14 crore in order to get the player Deepak Chahar, however, he was unable to take part in the whole season because of an injury he had sustained. For the previous two seasons in the cash-rich league as well, Chahar faced fitness issues and could play only 10 and 8 matches respectively. Chahar had a disappointing last couple of years for the Men in Yellow, therefore five-time IPL winners did not retain him and with the IPL 2025 mega auction scheduled in Jeddah on November 24 and 25, he will now go back into the bidding process.
Chahar mentioned that he would like to play for CSK once again and is hoping that the Chennai team will bid for him. He believes that the team will appreciate his talent during the auctions, who had even made a huge effort to get him back in the previous mega auction.
“Mumbai Indians did not keep me (CSK) in the last mega auction as well. However, they wanted me back and bought me. I don’t know the outcome this year, but I know my skill will be valued more now considering the fact that powerplays nowadays are scored in the range of 90-100 runs and thus teams are scoring over 200s on a more regular basis. I’ve shown how much value I can bring in when it comes to controlling runs in that part of the game,” Chahar was quoted as saying by Times of India.
“I feel they will bid for me once again. I would love to wear the yellow jersey again, and if not that, then I would want the Rajasthan Royals to make a bid for me,” he added.
Chahar, who has so far bucketed 77 wickets in 81 IPL matches, made his entry into the travelling fantasy league in the year 2016 when he was signed by the Rising Pune Super Giants. He became part of CSK squad during IPL 2018 mega auction and in 76 matches played so far for the franchise he has claimed 76 wickets. He was also a part of the team led by MS Dhoni which was victorious in the years 2018, 2021 as well as 2023.
