Delhi Capitals win by 6 wickets, beat MI to reach 2nd(on the points table). This was a very important victory for the Delhi Capitals as they were unable to beat Mumbai Indians last year. In IPL 2020, MI defeated DC 4 times, therefore Delhi can take a lot of confidence from this win.

Brief Scores

Mumbai Indians 137-9 (20 overs) R Sharma 44(30), I Kishan 26(28), A Mishra 4/24, A Khan 2/15.

Delhi Capitals 138-4 (19.1 overs) S Dhawan 45(42), S Smith 33(29), J Yadav 1/25, R Chahar 1/29.

Result: Delhi Capitals beat Mumbai Indians by 6 wickets with 5 balls to spare.

Man of the Match: Amit Mishra

Mumbai Indians’ captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first. This was a clear choice as chasing has been quite difficult here at the Chepauk in Chennai. The pitch gets slower with the progress of the game. MI made 1 change to their team- Jayant Yadav replaced Adam Milne. DC also made 2 changes- Shimron Hetmyer for Chris Woakes and Amit Mishra for Lukman Meriwala.

Mumbai began well even after losing opener Quinton de Kock early. Skipper Rohit Sharma was looking good and Suryakumar Yadav was as always in good touch. But the wicket of SKY by Avesh Khan made an opening for DC. Veteran spinner Amit Mishra used his guile and skill to outfox the Mumbai batsmen.

Amit Mishra takes 4 wickets, breaks backbone of MI batting lineup

Amit Mishra, in his first game of the season, bowled an exceptional spell. He bowled consistent tight lines and lengths and accounted for 4 big MI wickets. His scalps included that of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Keiron Pollard and Ishan Kishan. Mumbai at one stage were 84-6, but they were bailed out by Kishan and Jayant Yadav. DC were set a target of 138 runs.

Shikhar Dhawan scores crucial 45 runs, Delhi Capitals win with 5 balls to spare

Shikhar Dhawan and Steve Smith had a good partnership which more or less took the game away from MI. But MI bounced back with a couple of wickets and in the end it seemed jittery just like the chases have been here at Chennai. But Shimron Hetmyer and Lalit Yadav ensured they were no hiccups and guided DC home with 5 balls to spare. They were helped by a few extras from MI bowlers though.

Amit Mishra was adjudged Man of the Match for his match winning spell. His figures read 4-0-24-4. He took 4 big wickets and completely killed the momentum in Mumbai’s innings.
