Derek Chisora sums up what motivates him in one word

Derek Chisora has revealed the real motivations behind his final fight with Deontay Wilder.

Wilder and Chisora are set to clash on April 4, with ‘Del Boy’ claiming it will be the final fight of his career.

The 42-year-old is a real fan favourite in Britain, having shared the ring with some of the top stars the country has produced.

Chisora has been a part of some historic contests, including two fights with Dillian Whyte, a headlining showdown with Tyson Fury at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in what was a great trilogy and many more.

The seasoned heavyweight spoke to DAZN Boxing and revealed why this fight was perfect for his last dance.

“Legacy, some people want to win titles but they’re not fighting real fighters; it is for legacy for me I want to be that guy where people say ‘he boxed everybody.’”

Chisora has fought nearly everybody in his generation and the one before it. He has been competing at the highest level for well over a decade, with fights against David Haye and Vitali Klitschko taking place in 2012.

Despite legacy being the driving force behind Chisora’s fight with Wilder, promoter Kalle Sauerland is in fact pushing for a world title to be on the line when the heavyweight greats collide at the O2 Arena.

He spoke to Sky Sports Boxing.

“Given Chisora’s position at the very top of the heavyweight rankings right now, and Wilder’s position as well, and given the high-profile nature of the fight, it would be an amazing addition for them to be able to fight for the belt.

“Oleksandr Usyk has not had one single mandatory defence of the IBF in his reign as IBF heavyweight champion.

“That’s the politics of boxing. We will be speaking to the IBF to see whether there is something that can resolve the situation and we will be lobbying for such a move.”

Despite Chisora admitting he will bow out and retire on April 4, his opponent ‘The Bronze Bomber’ has very different intentions as he looks to have one last shot at becoming a world champion.

Wilder once ruled the heavyweight division and seemed set to get another shot, with a fight against two-time undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk close, so he will no doubt be eyeing that fight if he is successful against ‘Del Boy.’
