Derek Chisora and Deontay Wilder meet at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday in the supposed twilight of their respective careers, but the bout offers both men a possible later crack at a heavyweight world title through the IBF.
The 42-year-old Chisora has appeared to use his experience to his advantage, hitting a good run of form over the last three years. The British fan-favorite has won thrice since losing a tenth round TKO to his friendly-foe Tyson Fury in December 2022. Unanimous decision wins against Gerald Washington, Joe Joyce and Otto Wallin saw him rise to second place in the rankings for Oleksandr Uysk’s IBF world title. First place is currently vacant.
Wilder, on the other hand, has experienced some of the worst form of his career. The American was the most feared heavyweight on the planet, going 43 fights undefeated with 41 knockouts, until he lost back-to-back stoppage defeats to Tyson Fury in 2020 and 2021. Since falling twice to Fury, his form has not seen much improvement, losing in quick succession to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang. Wilder is coming off an under-the-radar seventh round stoppage against the little-known Tyrrell Herndon, but the fact he needed a tuneup does not look favorably on the 40-year-old, as Chisora has collided with elite fighters in his last two fights.
Remarkably, this will be Wilder’s first fight in Britain since his first-round annihilation of Audley Harrison in 2013.

On paper Chisora is bumping into Wilder at the perfect time. The form chart pushes most into thinking that Chisora is having a renaissance, while Wilder is on a sharp decline. The American knockout artist has looked incredibly flat against Joseph Parker, losing a wide unanimous decision. And even more unimpressive, losing a fifth round knockout against Zhilei Zhang. Chisora on the other hand is in the form of his life in what has been touted as his final fight, again!
