On Sunday, Dhruv Jurel, the young wicketkeeper of India, matched the unbelievable record of legendary stumper MS Dhoni in the Duleep Trophy. The ongoing Duleep Trophy match against India B saw him showcasing his exceptional glovework representing India A at Bengaluru. He took seven catches in the second innings thereby equalling Dhoni’s 20-year-old mark for most catches taken in an innings of a Duleep Trophy match.
Dhoni had represented East Zone and took seven catches during an innings against Central Zone back in 2004/05.
But Jurel had an unfortunate batting performance, being dismissed for two and zero runs in both innings.
Let us return to the match, where Navdeep Saini got five wickets and scored an important half-century that helped India B beat India A by seventy-six runs.
Saini partnered with Musheer Khan, who top-scored with 181 in the first innings, putting together a 205-run partnership to steer India B’s attack. The second innings 90-run lead by India B made sure that KL Rahul’s 57 and Akash Deep’s 43 runs did not go to waste for them in their first innings.
Rishabh Pant, who is making his way back into red ball cricket after nearly two years hiatus, also scored a quick-fire fifty in their second innings.
In their second innings, India A was bowled out at 198 chasing 275 for victory. It was Yash Dayal who took three wickets in second innings while Mukesh Kumar grabbed couple each along with Saini.
Nevertheless, a return to form for KL Rahul could do wonders for India ahead of two-match series against Bangladesh.
His batting performance is what earned Musheer the Man of The Match title.
