Arun Dhumal and Abhishek Dalmiya Re-Elected:

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has released updates following the 93rd Annual General Meeting held in Bengaluru on Sunday. Notable changes were announced, including the election of Arun Singh Dhumal and Avishek Dalmiya to the Indian Premier League  Governing Council.

Dhumal and Dalmiya will serve as general body representatives. Dhumal is set to continue as the chairman of the league until at least IPL 2025. Additionally, V. Chamundeswarnath has been nominated by the Indian Cricketers Association as a player representative and has officially joined the IPL Governing Council.

In a release, BCCI said, “The members of the general body also appreciated the efforts of the office bearers for the work undertaken with respect to the new National Cricket Academy campus, dubbed as the Centre of Excellence near the Bengaluru International Airport.”

Decisions Regarding the IPL:

The BCCI announced that the recommendations from the IPL Governing Council regarding the player auction cycle for 2025-2027 were approved during the AGM. The IPL Governing Council has laid out guidelines for franchises to follow in this upcoming cycle. These guidelines cover aspects such as player retention, right-to-match cards, and salary caps.

One significant change is the classification of capped Indian players who haven’t played internationally in the last five years as uncapped players. This adjustment allows franchises to retain these players at a reduced value compared to previous valuations. Additionally, overseas players must now enter their names for the mega-auction to participate in future IPL seasons.

Another crucial update involves penalties for overseas players who are selected in the auction but do not participate in the tournament. Such players will face a ban from the next two seasons. Along with it, all the franchises have to retain one uncapped player for the upcoming season. For IPL 2025, the auction purse for each franchise is set at INR 120 crore.

The Members’ Urge to Jay Shah:

Jay Shah is poised to assume the role of chairman of the International Cricket Council starting December 1. He plans to resign from his current position in the last week of November. During the recent 93rd BCCI AGM, members urged Shah to expedite the search for his successor to ensure a seamless transition of leadership.

A source said, “It was a normal request to keep all due process in place at the earliest as there will be clarity for us. Also, we have some big events like the IPL auction coming up, so it should not be like we will be handling everything at one go.”
