Dinesh Karthik pointed out the fault in Rishabh Pant’s technique with the glove after he missed a chance of a run out.
Dinesh Karthik was critical of Rishabh Pant’s wicketkeeping technique when he missed an opportunity to run out during the third Test against New Zealand in Mumbai. The event transpired on the sixth delivery of the 22nd over as the Kiwi batters were part of a miscommunication.
Washington Sundar bowled a fuller-length delivery, to which Daryl Mitchell played a reverse sweep past the slip region towards the deep third-man region. Daryl immediately ran hard and wanted two runs, but Will Young, the non-striker, was slow with his first run and never in the mood for the second one.
However, Mitchell ran for the second run, and Young had no option but to run. Mohammed Siraj picked the ball well, but his throw was slightly higher and wider, and Pant tried to hit the ball on the stumps towards his end, only to miss the mark.

Meanwhile, Young, who played a fine knock, somehow made it to the crease and was safe since Pant didn’t attempt a run out on his end. Maybe the wicketkeeper should have tried effecting the run out on his end, for Young was slow right from the start, but an opportunity went begging.
Dinesh Karthik criticises Rishabh Pant’s faulty technique
Following the end of events, Dinesh Karthik pointed out the fault in Rishabh Pant’s technique with the glove after he missed a chance of a run out. He explained that Pant didn’t remove his glove, and a throw towards his opposite end would have been better.
“Daryl Mitchell deciding on a reverse sweep, Siraj doing the cleaning up act. But have a look at Will Young – he is thinking just a single. Rishabh Pant is a man you need to watch out for. (He) didn’t remove his glove, and you can still see Will Young scrambling. A throw down the non-striker’s end would have definitely been a much better chance.”
“There was so much time, and because Rishabh Pant didn’t remove his glove, he didn’t even have the opportunity to go at it at the other end. As a keeper, it’s very important to be aware of what’s happening. I must admit Rishabh Pant did miss an opportunity there for a run-out.”
Maybe Pant wasn’t aware that the non-striker struggled during the second run, so he didn’t attempt a run out on the other end. Had the throw been accurate, even Daryl Mitchell would have been in trouble on the striker’s end.
