Former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has suggested Gautam Gambhir’s name who would protect his players and make it enjoyable for the Indian team but the lack of experience coaching in the long format of most games can be a concern.
Karthik who played with Gambhir at both international level and franchise cricket level argued that he had good reasons to lose it, not just because he has a short temper.
“Knew his aggression has generally come out in protection of his players and this is something that the current set of players will appreciate. He truly is not somebody who gets angry just for the sake of being angry,” said Karthik.
Karthik also said however that when it comes to his players, Gambhir is someone who would not mince words and expects nothing but greatness from his team.
Karthik told PTI that “Most of it has been based on his own playing style while protecting his players but at this moment in time the present generation can enjoy this benefit. From what I know he is not someone who would get angry just because.”
According to Karthik however “Gambhir will also speak blatantly when it concerns his people hence expects only the necessary from the group.”
“It is true he would at least pick out the suitable people for his project but anyway his personal benefit should be to bring out the maximum potential,” he noted
But Karthik suggested that Gambhir could be worried lack of coaching experience in Test matches just before starting with opening encounter against Bangladesh tomorrow
Gambhir’s mind could be clouded by lack of coaching experience in Test cricket which will be apparent when he faces his first game against Bangladesh here this Thursday,” Karthik said.
Gambhir despite having played numerous T20 tournaments will discover a completely different world of coaching when it comes to this particular Test series and I am sure it must have crossed his mind,” Karthik added.
You’re someone who has sailed through troubled waters. As a coach, understanding the weight of the game is very important for Karthik.”
“He is a very young coach, so it will be interesting to see how it goes. However, I am quite confident that he will meet all expectations. Until now, things have gone very well for him,” Karthik added.
Bangladesh come in top form after sweeping Pakistan off their feet with 2-0 defeats at home. Karthik sees that the hosts would need to take note of this and play accordingly too.
“Bangladesh will start with a lot of confidence. (For India) it’s about understanding that they are playing against a slightly changed Bangladesh side,” he mentioned.
“But, India in India is harder to beat than anywhere else in the world,” he concluded. It’s going to be quite different beating them here than anywhere else,” he said.
