He went unsold in the last season but his double century will now definitely help raise his stocks ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025 auction.
A discarded Indian Premier League (IPL) cricketer recently made the headlines after he slammed a scintillating double ton in the ongoing Irani Cup between Rest of India and Mumbai.
Talented young batter Sarfaraz Khan went unsold in the last season (IPL 2024) but his double century will now definitely help raise his stocks ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025 auction.
Notably, Sarfaraz was a part of the India squad for the recently-concluded two-match India vs Bangladesh series, although he did not feature in the playing XI.
He was released by the management during the second Test in Kanpur so that he could join the Mumbai squad for the Irani Cup.
Sarfaraz has now become the fourth-youngest Indian to score a double century in the Irani Cup, following Jaiswal, Amre, and Vishwanath.

Sarfaraz Khan becomes first Mumbai batter to slam double ton in Irani Cup
Sarfaraz made history by becoming the first cricketer to score a double century in the Irani Cup while representing Mumbai. He is only the 11th player to achieve this milestone in the 61 editions of the tournament, but none before him had done so for Mumbai, despite the team participating 29 times.
Interestingly, notable cricketers like Wasim Jaffer, Pravin Amre, Ravi Shastri, and Yashasvi Jaiswal have also recorded double centuries in the Irani Cup, but none of them did it while playing for Mumbai. Jaffer accomplished the feat while representing Vidarbha after leaving Mumbai, and Amre, Shastri, and Jaiswal achieved theirs while playing for the Rest of India.
Sarfaraz’s impressive performances in domestic cricket earned him a debut for India against England. He wasted no time making an impact in international cricket, scoring twin half-centuries in his first match. So far, he has played three Tests for India, accumulating 200 runs across five innings, averaging 50 with three half-centuries.
