Dodgers Utility Man Confident in Playing Center Field in 2026

Los Angeles Dodgers utility man Hyeseong Kim is confident that he can play center field for the team this season.

In an interview with Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain, Kim said he’s put in the work and feels like he can thrive there.

“This offseason and spring training I’ve worked very hard with our coaches,” Kim said. “Now that I’ve gotten more and more reps, I’ve definitely feel more comfortable reading the ball.”

Can Hyeseong Kim be a Difference Maker for the Dodgers?

Kim’s defense was solid, particularly in center field. He did not commit an error there; however, he did record -2 Outs Above Average in that spot. The infielder is a versatile defender and will look to showcase his ability in the outfield for an extended stretch this season.

The 27-year-old Korean ball player signed with the Dodgers prior to the 2025 season. He was one of the massive free agent signings for L.A.; however, he did not pan out in his first season.

Kim started the season with the Dodgers’ Triple-A Oklahoma City, and he played great. In 28 games there, he had an impressive .403 average with a 1.020 OPS.

In his limited time with the Dodgers’ big league club, his numbers were less than impressive across the board. He slashed .280/.314/.385 with a .699 OPS and a 95 OPS+, five points below the league average. Kim played in 71 games for the Dodgers and had 170 plate appearances.

While the offensive numbers and productivity weren’t there for Kim, Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts believes The Comet made the most of his opportunity.

“I thought he had a great year for the opportunities he was given,” Roberts said. “I expect he’s going to have more opportunities this year, and we’ll see where it takes him. But he’s a hard worker, and he’s an easy, easy guy to bet on.”

As for how Kim felt, he thinks he could’ve done a lot better in 2025.

“I was not satisfied last year,” Kim said. “I found out some of the things that I needed to work on. I just want to work hard and make sure that I make the roster right off the bat after Spring Training.”
