In just the 4th time in my lifetime…the Dodgers have won the World Series! 1981, 1988, 2020, and now in 2024…against the Yankees. I can’t say I hate them like I did when I was a kid because Reggie Jackson is not on deck now waiting. The last game was sloppy by the Yankees and I would have loved to see the Dodgers win at home… but I’ll take this one and run. After 4 innings tonight…I wrote the Dodgers off in this game. I was confident they would win in LA but now I don’t have to wait!
Max Muncy and Ohtani went cold but their teammates picked them up. Smaller names like Tommy Edman and Kike Hernandez produced timely hits throughout the series. Mookie Betts had a good series but…Freddie Freeman was on a different level than anyone else. He stole the headlines in this World Series. He went 6 for 20 (.300) with a triple, four homers, 12 RBI, and just one strikeout in the World Series. He won The MVP and no one deserved it more.
Considering the Dodgers only had 3 starters and had to count on a tired bullpen…they did an awesome job. They were without staff ace Tyler Glasnow and also Clayton Kershaw but had just enough. Yamamoto was great in game 2 and Walker Buehler really played into a larger contract for next year. He shut them out in game 3 and closed game 5.
Dave Roberts didn’t use their best bullpen arms in Game 4 to save them until this game…which turned out to be the perfect plan. The Yankees had the edge in the pitching but the Dodgers had a slight edge on offense because of a deeper lineup. It was one of the most evenly-matched World Series I’ve ever seen.
I did this post in a hurry…I’m high on emotions right now…it’s a great feeling!
