In the tightest battle of week one of Super Rugby Americas (SRA) 2026, Los Dogos withstood the bite of Os Cobras in Córdoba. The Córdoba team were 21-19 winners in a match decided at the final-whistle.
The result means a 100% winning record for Argentine teams to open the SRA season. Other week one results saw a barnstorming performance from Los Tarucas humble Selknam in Tucumán, Los Pampas were road winners over Yacare in Asunción and newcomers, Los Capibaras had a dream SRA debut by dominating reigning champions Peñarol in Rosario.
Los Dogos had a much more complicated route to victory than did the three other Argentine SRA franchises. Indeed, the Brazilian side went out to a 10-0 lead, doing so after a converted try against the run of play and a penalty.
The opening try was scored by South African recruit, Rosko Specman. It was very different to the next two tries, both of which were scored by Los Dogos’ hooker, Juan Greissing Revol. The double both came from lineout to maul moves.
João do Amaral added a penalty to end the half at 14-13 in favor of Los Dogos. do Amaral then landed another seven minutes into the second-half to restore the lead for Os Cobras. The scores would remain 16-14 until the close of the third quarter.
It was at the close of the third quarter that the best rugby of the night was played. A brilliant try by Los Dogos saw seven passes, angled running, a half-break from Facundo Pueyrredón and Nicolás Viola scoring in the left corner. Julián Hernández converted for a 21-16 lead.
Os Cobras added three more points with do Amaral slotting his fourth, and final penalty of the night. There was time for both teams to score tries but neither team succeeded. This included Los Dogos narrowly missing a bonus point for a fourth try.
The match was a postponed fixture; it had been scheduled to be the season opener on Friday. It means a reduced recovery window before week two. Both teams will compete again on Saturday. Os Cobras face Los Capibaras in Rosario a first-ever match between the sides while Los Dogos travel to Buenos Aires to face Los Pampas.
