“Don’t hire him again” – Keith Thurman FUMES at referee after Sebastian Fundora loss

Keith Thurman launched a scathing attack on referee Thomas Taylor following his sixth round stoppage loss to Sebastian Fundora on Saturday.

Thurman fell short in his bid to become a two-weight world champion champion, with Taylor halting the bout in the sixth round, following a sustained onslaught from Fundora at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

‘One Time’ had lost every round on two of the judges’ scorecards at the time of the stoppage and had blood streaming down his face.

However, the former welterweight titlist insists he should have been given more time to continue and believes he could have swung the momentum of the bout.

“Fundora is a tremendous champion,” the 37-year-old said in his post-fight press conference

“But whoever the f*** that referee was, don’t hire him for f***ing main event s*** ever again, man.

“Do you remember Erik Morales vs Marcos Maidana?

“Do you remember how many times people fought with broken orbital bones? This s*** is not even broken.

“Never got dropped in the whole fight.

“I’m getting caught on the back end of punches.

“The referee told me in the locker room, ‘show me something, move your feet, duck your head, I won’t stop the fight’.

“I’m using my legs. I wasn’t buckled, he just jumped in like a white rabbit.

“Them little hoppy referees, they’re not made for main event boxing.

“Four more minutes and he could have made a mistake right in front of me.

“I had that long-term vision and the ref didn’t let me get there.”

Fundora made a third successful defence of his WBC super welterweight title and handed his rival the first stoppage defeat of his career.

Thurman, whose only previous loss came to Manny Pacquiao on points in 2019, vowed to continue fighting.

“Keep looking forward to what I have to bring,” the Florida native added.

“37-years-old. I’ve got some more fight left in me, especially because they stopped it early.

“I’m here, I’m talking, I’m not stuttering.

“I’m going to go back into the gym.”
