It was a double celebration for Americas’ competitors in Montevideo this weekend. The USA Men’s Eagles were crowned Men’s Champions and Las Yaguaretés were crowned the Women’s Champions at the SVNS 2 played at the Estadio Charrúa in Montevideo, Uruguay.
The USA and Germany both successfully qualified for the HSBC SVNS World Championship Series. They were also the top two performers from the prior tournament in Nairobi, Kenya. The USA claimed the title in Montevideo with an unbeaten tournament. Will Chevalier was the star performer for the USA Eagles 7’s.
The two hosts this far, Kenya and Uruguay, are positioned third and fourth respectively. They are both on track to qualify alongside the USA and Germany to claim the remaining two positions which will be confirmed at the upcoming tournament in São Paulo, Brazil. Notwithstanding, both Belgium and Canada are also in contention.
Argentina’s Women’s team, Las Yaguaretés, completed back-to-back titles at the SVNS 2. They followed their victory at the prior leg of the tournament in Nairobi, Kenya. In doing so, Argentina are assured of a spot in the SVNS World Championship Series. Maria Brigido Chamorro was the Women’s Player of the Tournament.
Finishing behind Las Yaguaretés were Spain and South Africa in second and third respectively. They were in the same positions, in reverse order, in Nairobi. It means that Argentina, South Africa and Spain have secured the three spots on the line at Hong Kong, Valladolid and Bordeaux Sevens.
One qualification spot remains with China in pole position to claim it though both Brazil and Kenya can still secure it instead.
