Dragon Lee has had issues with Gunther since The Ring General retired AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble, and for the most part, Lee has come up short in his attempts to get back at Gunther for what he did. Tonight was the biggest loss Lee’s suffered in his quest for vengeance, as he was actually unmasked by Gunther in their match.
As Lee was gaining momentum and starting to head toward a possible victory, Gunther locked him in a sleeper hold and ripped off Lee’s mask for an advantage. Lee tapped immediately, but Gunther refused to let go of the hold for quite some time after, out of spite (or—in reality—possibly to make sure Lee had a good enough angle to cover his face properly when Gunther would let him go)

This is actually the second time Dragon Lee has been unmasked, funnily enough nearly almost an exact year since the last time, even. On March 24, 2025, El Grande Americano (original form, Chad Gable) made his in-ring debut and unmasked Lee during that segment. Nowadays, Original El Grande Americano is a babyface on Raw and a heel on AAA, and it’s all a backwards timeline mess that is both awful and amazing at the same time.
What does this mean going forward? There have been some rumblings about a possible match between Gunther and Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania, and if the retirement tour concept continues, this could be leading toward that bout with Rey’s career on the line, or possibly just his mask as a symbolic end to his career.
Meanwhile, the path to WrestleMania for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship is a more open door after AJ Lee put out a challenge to anyone in the locker room to step up to face her for the belt, which has resulted in six of those women being put in a gauntlet match on next week’s episode of Raw to determine who gets the first shot. The six women in that match will be Asuka, Bayley, Ivy Nile, Lyra Valkyria, Iyo Sky and Raquel Rodriguez.
Also set for next week, Oba Femi will face Rusev to pick back up where they left off from their fight inside the ring on this week’s episode.
