Dubai Sees Record Crowd at Women’s T20I Milestone

India and Pakistan’s rivalry once again sparked excitement, this time in Dubai, where a record-breaking 15,935 spectators witnessed a thrilling contest between the women’s teams. India secured a six-wicket victory, but the crowd, atmosphere, and unity in the stands stole the spotlight, making it a landmark day for women’s cricket.

The match, held at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, marked the 100th T20I played at the venue. This was also the highest-ever attendance for a league game at a women’s ICC event, surpassing the 3,578 spectators who watched these teams face off in the 2023 T20 World Cup.

A Spectacular Atmosphere

The vibrant crowd featured a mix of Indian and Pakistani supporters, with Indians making up roughly 85% of the audience, reflecting the UAE’s demographic.

Fans brought energy, waving flags, singing chants, and celebrating key moments.

Despite national rivalries, camaraderie was evident, with fans from both sides taking photos and sharing moments of joy, regardless of the match’s outcome.

Arundhati Reddy, who was Player of the Match for her 3 for 19, was feeling the love. “Lovely crowd today,” she said after the match. “A lot of Indians there supporting us. It just felt very good getting into the ground today, a lot of Indians cheering for us and we hope they keep turning up for us.”

Pakistan’s captain, Sana, appeared to embrace the excitement of playing before a large crowd: “I told the team to enjoy the moment on the field, knowing that the Indian supporters were in full force. Despite the crowd’s overwhelming support for India, our team relished the atmosphere, played with intent, and that’s what mattered most.”
