Former Philadelphia Eagles offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland will likely not be returning in 2026.

Jeff Stoutland spent 13 seasons as the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive line coach, and by nearly every measure, he was one of the best assistant coaches in franchise history. Now he’s gone, and based on his recent comments, he’s likely not coming back.

On the March 27 episode of “The SZN with Nick Foles & Evan Moore,” Stoutland broke his silence after stepping down as OC and his remarks were quite telling.

“I’ve always been a person that, if you’re going to do something, go all in,” Stoutland told Foles and Moore. “And I’m excited about this new chapter in my life. You know, 44 years is a long time to be in the business, in this business.”

“It’s a grinding business, requires a lot of time away from your family,” the former Eagles OC added. “So I’m excited about doing, like, ordinary things like going for a walk in the neighborhood with my wife … or going to play golf in September.”

Stoutland’s Work in Philadelphia Speaks for Itself

Stoutland joined the Eagles in 2013 after coaching at Alabama, where he helped the Crimson Tide win back-to-back BCS national championships. He survived two more coaching changes in Philadelphia, staying on under Doug Pederson and then Nick Sirianni. In 2018, he added the title of run game coordinator, which he held until he left the team.

During Stoutland’s tenure, his offensive lines blocked for two NFL rushing champions — LeSean McCoy in 2013 and Saquon Barkley in 2024.

He coached seven players to 27 Pro Bowl selections, including likely future Hall of Famers Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson. Other standouts included Jason Peters, Landon Dickerson and Evan Mathis. Players dubbed the position room “Stoutland University” for a reason.

After Stoutland stepped down as O-line coach, some players, including Lane Johnson, thought the coach would return in some capacity.

“It was very unexpected,” Johnson said about Stoutland’s exit, via the Philly Voice. “But when we don’t perform to expectations, things like this happen. It’s unfortunate. The thing about him, though, is I think he’ll be around some, in some capacity this year, so it’s not like he’s a long ways away.”

Unfortunately for Johnson and the rest of the O-line, that doesn’t look like it’s happening.

Things went awry for Stoutland and Philly’s offense throughout the 2025 season. Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Stoutland’s duties as run game coordinator were slowly taken away during the season as Sirianni got more involved in the offense.

The Eagles have since hired Chris Kuper as their new offensive line coach and Ryan Mahaffey as run game coordinator — both roles Stoutland had held. And based on everything Stoutland has said so far, he’s not looking back.

When pressed once again about a possible return, Stoutland remained noncommittal.

“I have no idea. I haven’t had a conversation with anybody about anything like that,” he said, adding:

“Lane and I, we came in together in 13. That was Chip Kelly’s first year. I always think we felt like we would end up leaving together as well. I don’t know. There was a kind of a silent, almost agreement kind of, but that didn’t happen, unfortunately. … But I always say this: I think there’s some point in your life where you kind of know. You kind of just know. And I think that I’ve reached that point.”

“I was in a position where a lot of things changed, things will happen, and things had taken place. … So I just felt like it was that time, and I haven’t looked back since. I know there’s things that I’ll miss, but I know there’s going to be some exciting things going ahead, going forward, (new) opportunities, and challenges.”

Whatever his future holds, there’s no doubt Eagles Nation will miss him in a big way.
