Tonight will see the first trophy of the season awarded. For Coventry, it would be their first Cup title since 2007, while the Panthers haven’t contested a Final since winning it in 2016.
Coventry have a much better record at the Motorpoint Arena this season than they do on Skydome ice. The Blaze have lost all four games to the Panthers in Coventry, while they have taken five points out of eight at the Motorpoint Arena.
They come into this game off the back of a four-point weekend which saw a win in Manchester followed by a home victory over Glasgow.
Nottingham Panthers, currently second in the league, go into the final after beating Fife last weekend before a heavy defeat in Cardiff.
The last meeting between the teams in Nottingham saw the Blaze take a 3-2 shootout win.
Shootouts are not a possibility in tonight’s Final. If the game is tied after 60 minutes, there will be a full intermission followed by 20-minute periods played five-on-five, sudden death. The Cup will be won when one team scores a winning goal.
Last April, the Panthers were involved in the second-longest playoff Final ever, winning in the second period of overtime to take the title.
