Elevate Golf – Part One –

Elevate Golf – Part One is a short golf blog post that takes a look at one of the best golfing destinations in England.

Before I start, let me begin by saying a huge thank you to all at Elevate Golf for organising such a great trip down to Liverpool.
This was a 2-day add-on to the Elevate Golf event at the Fairmont, St Andrews.

The primary goal or focus of the trip was to show off the facilities and logistics of staying in Liverpool when playing on the North West Coast.
Hundreds of leading Suppliers and Tour Operators from all over the world were in attendance.

Elevate Golf – Liverpool

It began on the 26th October 2025 with a monster coach ride from the Fairmont, St Andrews to the Municipal Hotel, Liverpool.
The journey started at 08:50 and arrived at the hotel at 16:05, and the bus reached an internal temperature of 29.4 degrees.
Melanie Baxter and her team were the head of logistics at the destinations, and Melanie was brilliant. Every little detail was in hand and well organised.

The Municipal Hotel (5 Star)

I had a nice, small room with high ceilings and a nice, big window with city views.
The window didn’t open, and the AC was pumping out hot air, which I immediately turned off as I really dislike AC.
The room was otherwise well equipped with a tea & coffee area and a fridge.
There were robes & slippers, plus an ironing board and iron.

There was even a glass cloche on the table with 2 small Liverpool Tarts underneath it. (A speciality of the area)
The En-Suite facilities were good, which included Culti Shampoo, Conditioner & Shower Gel.
Check-in and check-out were very smooth, friendly and fast.
The main bar and restaurant are definitely the highlights of the hotel. The food was excellent.
The service staff were great, fast and friendly yet very professional and attentive.

Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club

The journey from the hotel to the golf course was close to 2 Hours due to heavy morning traffic. The tee times had to be pushed back by 15 minutes.
The course was in great condition. The greens had been heavily hollow-tined, so they were a little uneven.
Otherwise, the course was great. Lots of Bunkers and Gorse have been removed since I last played it in 1994.
The course is not the most scenic, as you are often overlooked by local housing.
The course isn’t pretty,y but it is a good test of golf and a great links. The conditions are superb.
We were wind-assisted for the front 9, but then the back 9 was the complete opposite, which made it a lot more difficult.

The Clubhouse at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club

The staff in the clubhouse were very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us.
The facilities include old visitor changing rooms and an entrance hall.
The bar and restaurant have had a facelift and are much more modern than the rest of the building.
The pro shop is very well equipped and the team are very friendly and welcoming.
After the golf, we had lunch, served upstairs in the bar & restaurant.
We were served soup and sandwiches, which were very tasty indeed.

I have no problem recommending this course, but only for afternoon tee times, if staying in Liverpool.

Hope Street Hotel, Liverpool

This hotel has a Scandinavian feel to it. Lots of white walls, use of lighter wooden materials and very minimalistic.
My room (259) was very spacious and split into 2 levels. The entrance and bathroom are on one level, and the bed is on the lower level.
It was well equipped with a tea & coffee area, and there was a welcome gift from a local artist.
The room had robes & slippers, an ironing board and an iron, and enough hanging space.
A large window that you could open up for some fresh air, which I love.
So I turned off the AC, opened the window. It was like heaven on earth because I hate AC.

The En-Suite facilities were excellent. It was very clean, with great use of silicone.
It was equipped with TempleSpa Shampoo, Conditioner & Shower Gel.
This was my favourite hotel because I love a Scandi feel.

The Cavern Club

We visited the Cavern Club, which is synonymous with The Beatles.
This is such an iconic music venue, which is a must-visit when in Liverpool.
The Cavern Club first opened in January 1957 as a Skiffle Club.
The Beatles first played there on the 9th February 1961 without Ringo Starr.

Since its opening, most famous bands have played there, including the likes of:
Adele, Oasis, The Who, Queen, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, The Hollies, The Kinks, Black Sabbath, Gerry and the Pacemakers and the Arctic Monkeys.
A great night out, but be warned, you go down lots of stairs to get there, and it can get crowded.

Formby Golf Club

We had a very friendly welcome from the staff at Formby.
We were shown to the locker rooms, where we got changed for the day.
There are 2 golf courses at Formby GC. There is the shorter Ladies Course and then there is the longer Gents Course.
Formby has a great feel to it, as well as a great course design, especially when you go through the gate and start to play through the trees.
Eventually, you reach the 9th tee and your jaw drops at the amazing vista of the hole and the ocean in the background.
This has to be one of the longest Par 4s that I have ever played.
Then there is Ely (hope I have spelt that correctly) at the halfway house, who was great.
The halfway house is passed twice on the round, after the 11th and 13th holes.

The Clubhouse at Formby Golf Club

The Pro shop is well equipped and the staff are very friendly
The clubhouse facilities are very traditional, but they also have a few surprises.
Surprises like a fantastic snooker room that still holds professional matches because of how good the tables are.
The other surprise is a massive Hippo’s Head in the Lobby. Yes, that’s right, a real Hippo’s head in the Lobby. Ask Formby about the story.
After the golf, we were served lunch in the restaurant, which was a Chicken and Mushroom Pie with Chips, Peas and Gravy. It was delicious!
I did comment on the amount of chicken in the pie; it must have been 2 chicken breasts in each pie!

The Journey Home

After the Golf, we had to pack everything up as we had a Chartered Flight from Liverpool Airport to Edinburgh Airport with Jet2.
This was very well organised, and after landing, there was a coach to pick us up and take us back to the Fairmont, St Andrews.

A long 2 days, but a great 2 days.
