Eliud Kipchoge’s Surprising Exit from Paris Olympics

The Kenyan athlete Eliud Kipchoge, who entered the quadrennial games with hopes of securing his third consecutive Olympic gold medal, unfortunately could not complete his race. This unexpected turn of events marked the end of Kipchoge’s remarkable dominance in marathon running as he  announced the end of his Olympic career. 

Eliud Kipchoge struggles at the Paris Olympics

The Kenyan marathon legend, Eliud Kipchoge, faced an unexpected challenge as he struggled to maintain the blistering pace of the lead pack after the 15th kilometer. By the 30km mark, clocking in at 1:39:38, Kipchoge’s race came to an abrupt end, with the official results marking him as DNF(Did Not Finish) a rare sight for the world-record holder.

In the videos circulating on social media, reigning Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge was seen walking at one point during the race, with the crowd cheering him on before he ultimately decided to withdraw. Shortly after, Kipchoge officially exited the race, with officials escorting him away in a van. As of now, neither Kipchoge nor his team has released a statement regarding any potential injuries that he may have suffered during the Paris Olympics.

Meanwhile, Ethiopia’s Tamirat Tola seized the gold medal, clocking 2:06:26 and setting a new Olympic record. According to all the athletes the marathon track of Paris olympics was full of formidable courses with many uphills and turns which made completing the track tough. 

Eliud Kipchoges views on Paris olympics

In an interview with Olympics.com, Eliud Kipchoge shared insights into his preparation for the Paris Olympics and expressed his deep passion for long-distance running. The renowned Kenyan athlete discussed his meticulous approach to training and his enduring love for the sport as he gears up for the prestigious quadrennial event.

He said that “I like the long runs, because I am running for a long time. Makes my mind to really work hard for more than two hours. Makes me strong. It makes my mind strong, to be consistent, to respect that pain.Everything is a challenge, and everyday programming is a challenge.” Seeing the long journey of Eliud Kipchoges, all the fans are left disheartened by the defeat he had to face in his last run. The fans have shown their love and support for the athlete all over social media.
