Empire Club kicked off their Group F campaign in the Prime Minister’s Cup football tournament with a commanding 6-2 victory over fellow Division One team United Stars Alliance on Wednesday night in Haynesville, St James.
Despite their recent relegation from the Barbados Football Association’s Premier League, the “Mighty Blues”, like all the other teams, are eyeing the lucrative $100 000 prize on offer for the final on November 30 at Kensington Oval.
Coached by Jamaican Ormondo McLeod and managed by ex-Wales midfielder Jabar “Buggy” Greene, Empire wasted no time getting on the scoresheet after the teams were greeted by Sandra Husbands, Member of Parliament for St James South.
In just the eighth minute, Steffon Doyle fired home a superb strike, giving his team an early lead. However, United Stars were quick to respond, with Zachary Browne netting the 1-1 equaliser in the 17th minute. Browne outjumped Empire goalkeeper Anthony Lewis to head in a long ball. (ML)
