England captain Harry Brook hailed head coach Brendon McCullum for masterminding his move up to number three after England booked their place in the semi-finals with victory over Pakistan in Pallekele on Tuesday.

Brook, who generally plays in the middle-order, walked out to bat at 3 and smashed a century in a run-chase to help his team a closely fought affair.

The idea of Brook’s promotion at number 3 was proposed by McCullum.

“It was all Baz. He came to me this morning and said, ‘Look, we might change it up and put you at three today.’ We’ve spoken about adapting and changing things throughout this competition, and just having the bravery to do that today was awesome,” Brook revealed at the Press-conference.

The England captain faced 51 balls and scored a match-winning hundred- becoming the first captain to do so in the T20 World Cup history. It was the most number of balls Brook faced in a T20I game. Brook enjoyed his time at the top-order against Pakistan.

“I’m getting better at number three. I haven’t batted there much, but it’s nice to get out and face as many balls as possible,” Brook added.

Having qualified for the Semi-final, Brook’s team will play their last Super Eight game against New Zealand on February 27.
