Star all-rounder Gus Atkinson had his impressive start in his Test career with maiden century, which played a crucial part in England winning over Sri Lanka on Day 2 of second Test as Lord’s.
The hosts ended the day with a dominative lead of 256 runs.
Atkinson had previously taken 12 wickets against West Indies in the same ground of Lord’s in his debut, has now further showed his abilities as that of an all-rounder. He has become the first England number eight in 11 years who has scored a Test century.
Playing his fifth ever Test, Atkinson reached his century within an impressive 22 deliveries, continuing on his previous day score of 74. It was for a dive catch by Milan Rathnyake which dismissed Atkinson.
The dominance of England was far beyond the century by Atkinson, as they scored a total of 427 all out.
Sri Lankan batting lineup was in struggle against the pace attack of England, mostly because of Olly Stone taking two wickets and Matthew Potts snatching another two wickets in a disastrous spell.
