Equals Kohli’s Record in 56 Fewer Games

In T20 Internationals, Suryakumar Yadav has tied Virat Kohli’s record for the most Player of the Match (POTM) honors. Surya matched Kohli’s record of 125 matches with his 16th Player of the Month title in just 69 games.

At the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, during the opening T201 of their 2024 visit, India easily defeated Sri Lanka by 43 runs, marking a significant accomplishment.

When given the opportunity to bat first, India produced a strong score of 213/7 in their 20 overs, driven by the captain Surya’s 58 off 26 balls, which featured eight fours and two sixes. He won POTM for his brilliant innings, which demonstrated his aggressive desire and ability to tip the scales in his team’s favor.

Even with Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal out, Surya’s innings gave the team the consistency and energy they needed. With a fast 49 from 33 balls, Rishabh Pant made a huge contribution as well.

India reached 200 runs thanks to quick runs in the middle overs from Hardik Pandya and Riyan Parag, as well as an unbeaten 10 off 5 balls from Axar Patel.

In retaliation, Sri Lanka was dismissed for 170 runs in 19.2 overs. Kusal Mendis’s 45 off 27 and Pathum Nissanka’s 79 off 48 balls were the only noteworthy scores in an otherwise unsatisfactory chase.

The two best bowlers for India were Arshdeep Singh and Riyan Parag, who each took two wickets for 24 and three wickets for five respectively.

SKY’s quick accumulation of 16 POTM trophies is a testament to his significant contributions and vital position in India’s T20I team. Fans and experts alike will be watching closely to see if he can break Kohli’s record and keep changing the game for his team now that the series has barely started.
