Ernest Poku in wait-and-see mode over international future with Ghana, Netherlands, and Germany – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Scores, Results

Bayer Leverkusen forward Ernest Poku says he is keeping his international future open, with Ghana, the Netherlands and Germany all still in contention.

The 22-year-old, who has represented the Netherlands at youth level, insists no decision has been made as he waits for formal approaches from the three nations.

“Netherlands, Ghana and Germany are also options, but I haven’t heard from all three yet. I can only wait…” he said, as quoted by sportnieuws.nl.

Poku, regarded as one of Europe’s emerging dual-national talents, has strengthened his profile since completing a €12 million move from AZ Alkmaar last summer, registering five goals and seven assists in the Bundesliga this season.

Despite his openness, the winger has distanced himself from informal contact, revealing that multiple individuals claiming to represent the Ghana Football Association had reached out to him.

“I did hear some things from Ghana, but that’s fifteen people who message me and say they work there. In the end, you don’t know what to believe. I have indicated that they should not communicate with me. If so, I’ll hear it from my agent,” he said.

While Poku maintains strong cultural ties to Ghana and speaks Twi, he is leaving the door open on all fronts as he adopts a wait-and-see approach to his international future.
