Captain Jonny Bairstow led the way with 50, added to by scores of 45 for Dom Bess and 43 for Adam Lyth, as Yorkshire totalled 247-11 on the second and final day of their pre-season friendly against Essex at Chelmsford today.
The White Rose county were responding to Essex day-one 255-12 from 68.4 overs, with teenaged quick Jay Singh claiming 4-41 from 12 and Ben Cliff 3-56 from 13.
Today, the visitors responded in similar fashion – facing 68 overs – as they build up to Friday’s season opener, the Rothesay County Championship clash with Glamorgan at Cardiff.
Wickets fell at regular intervals throughout the day, but there was encouragement for Bairstow, all-rounder Bess and opener Lyth.
Emerging fast bowler Charlie Bennett struck twice for Essex, as did spin duo Simon Harmer and Matt Critchley.
Bairstow reached his fifty off 44 balls before being trapped lbw by Mitchell Killeen two balls later. He hit nine fours and a straight six, the latter off the pace of Zaman Akhter.
