Evergreen Anderson set for another County campaign with Lancashire

James Anderson has resumed training at the age of 43, with the former England fast bowler preparing for a new county season in strong physical condition.

Footage released by Lancashire County Cricket Club showed him bowling in the indoor nets with fluency and control.

The right arm seamer will captain Lancashire in the forthcoming County Championship campaign. He served as interim captain across part of the 2025 season before taking the role on a permanent basis after Keaton Jennings resigned in May.

Anderson retired from Test cricket in 2024, ending a career that produced 704 wickets in the format, the most by any England bowler. Across 304 four day matches he has taken 1,143 wickets.

He remains England’s leading wicket taker in both Tests and One Day Internationals.

Lancashire head coach Steven Croft outlined the value Anderson brings to the role.

“Jimmy is an outstanding leader whose influence on the squad is immense. His experience in cricket is second to none, and the way he stepped into the captaincy during the second half of last season showed exactly why he’s the right person for the job.

“He also leads the way with his performances on the field, and his commitment and dedication to training and living the right lifestyle set the perfect standard for the rest of the dressing room.

“With Jimmy as captain and Josh continuing as vice-captain, we have a strong, stable leadership team that will drive our ambitions in the County Championship next season,” he told ESPNcricinfo.
