Indian fast bowler Avesh Khan has praised the newly appointed head coach of the Indian team, Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir took over as the head coach after Rahul Dravid resigned following India’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2024.
Khan, who has worked with Gambhir during his time with the IPL team LSG, spoke highly of Gambhir’s approach. He mentioned that Gambhir is a quiet person who clearly communicates each player’s role and responsibilities.
“Everything I’ve learned from him is about having the attitude to always try to outperform your opponent and give your best effort. During team meetings and individual conversations, he didn’t talk much, but he clearly explained what needed to be done. He would give players specific tasks and roles, and he’s always been a coach who focuses on the team. He always wants to win and for everyone to give their best,” Khan said to BCCI.
In the current five-match T20 series against Zimbabwe, Khan is tied for the most wickets taken. The right-arm bowler has taken six wickets in three innings, with an average of 13.83 and an economy rate of 7.54. He started with a good performance, taking 1 wicket for 29 runs in the first game. Then, in the second game, he took 3 wickets for 15 runs in three overs, and in the third T20 match, he took 2 wickets for 39 runs.
India started the series with a surprising 15-run defeat in the first T20 match, where they couldn’t reach the low target of 116 runs. But the young team made a strong comeback in the second game. Abhishek Sharma scored a hundred in 46 balls and helped India win by 100 runs.
The Men in blue secured their victory in the third match by 23 runs, giving them a 2-1 advantage in the series. The two teams will compete again in the fourth T20 match on Saturday, July 13, at Harare Sports Club in Harare.
