The ex-India star in question here is Sanjay Manjrekar, who pointed out the flaw in Kohli’s batting technique and also criticized him for not trying to improve it
Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar pointed out the flaw in star batter Virat Kohli’s technique following the 36-year-old’s cheap dismissal in the Adelaide Test.
Following a century in Perth, fans were expecting Kohli to continue giving strong performances, however he failed to do so and lost his wicket to Australia pacer Mitchell Starc after only scoring 7 runs.
Kohli stepped out to bat replacing KL Rahul, who lost his wicket after playing a decent innings of 37. With lunch right arouynd the corner at that time, it was expected that Kohli would close out the session well and protect his wicket.
However, a brilliant delivery from Starc ended up nicking Kohli’s bat and went straight into the hands of Steve Smith, who was standing on the second slip.
Manjrekar, disappointed with Kohli’s dismissal, highlighted his declining Test average and his persistent struggle against balls outside off-stump. He also criticized Kohli’s reluctance to change his approach.
“One important reason why Virat’s average has slipped to 48 now is the unfortunate weakness outside off. But more crucially, his adamance to not try another way to tackle it,” Manjrekar wrote on X.
Kohli’s wicket left India reeling on 77/3 and the situation got worse for them before lunch as Shubman Gill ended up falling to pacer Scott Boland to leave the visitors on 81/4.
