The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced on Wednesday that they have chosen Ramakrishnan Sridhar to be the Assistant Coach for the Afghanistan National Cricket Team. Sridhar will help the team prepare for a special Test match against New Zealand and a series of three one-day matches against South Africa.
“The Afghanistan Cricket Board has selected Indian coach Ramakrishnan Sridhar to assist the National Team during the upcoming one-time Test match against New Zealand and the three one-day games against South Africa,” stated the ACB’s announcement.
Sridhar, who has played 35 first-class and 15 List A matches in India’s domestic cricket, has a strong understanding of the game and is well-known. He has successfully made the transition from player to coach, especially as the Fielding Coach for the Indian national team.
Sridhar has been an important member of India’s coaching team for more than 300 international matches, including two ICC ODI World Cups and two T20I World Cups.
Sridhar’s experience as a coach is strengthened by his time with Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he worked as the Spin Bowling Coach from 2014 to 2017. Moreover, Sridhar has made important contributions to India’s youth cricket, having been the Assistant Coach and Spin Bowling Coach for the Indian U19 national team.
He also worked at India’s National Cricket Academy from 2008 to 2014 as an assistant coach for fielding and spin bowling.
