Ex-RCB star’s Shocking Exit from Team Punjab: Moves to Tripura

Indian batter Mandeep Singh has given confirmation about his transfer from Punjab to Tripura in a significant development before the 2024/25 domestic cricket season. As for having three T20I appearances for India in 2016, and being such a seasoned campaigner, Mandeep has proved himself as a pivotal player for Punjab since his debut in 2010.

Taking up 6,448 runs from 99 matches at an impressive average of 47.76, Mandeep’s contribution to the team has been impressive. Tripura stands to gain significantly from the inclusion of Mandeep, more so in the light of wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha’s return to Bengal. The addition of former Punjab batter strengthened Tripura’s lineup for batting in the upcoming seasons.

Mandeep Singh played the role of a pivot in domestic victories of Punjab in reaching their maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title i the 2023/24 season. His departure marks the end of a successful and enduring relationship with Punjab Cricket Association (PCA).

Following his departure, Mandeep wrote a post on social media showing his gratitude for the PCA sharing some heartfelt words.

“I have had the most amazing journey at PCA, from junior level all the way to senior level, and I had the best fortune of being the winning captain of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for 2023/24,” his post read.

Mandeep expressed his sincere affection to PCA secretary Dilsher Khanna, along with cricketing icons such as Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh for their continuous support throughout his career. He also expressed gratitude to PCA management and staff for their support.

“After a lot of deliberation, I think it’s time for me to open a new chapter in my career. I have decided that now is the right time to go ahead and play cricket for Tripura in the upcoming domestic season. I am excited for the new beginnings at Tripura and to celebrate the many milestones and achievements that are yet to come,” his social media post further read.
