“This winter’s training has been the hardest and most intense I’ve ever done, and that’s probably due to getting older. It takes longer to recover.” With these words, Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton spoke to The Independent about his preparation ahead of his second season with the Maranello-based team.
“I’ve managed to bring together all these new tools. I have a great trainer I’ve worked with in the past, but we started working together again on Christmas Day,” he added.
Hamilton’s mindset and preparation
“Then there’s the time spent at the factory, of course, with the new engineer, and that has also been a big advantage. There’s a great atmosphere within the team. And as I said, I made a decision on Christmas Day about how I would approach this season. I decided what I would do mentally, and I will continue to refine it,” explained the 41-year-old British driver.
Following the race in China, Lewis Hamilton added: “I definitely feel like I’m back to my best, both mentally and physically. I believe I can still improve. I think I can extract even more performance from this car. I’m still learning how to understand it, especially in terms of energy deployment. I believe there is still room for improvement.”
