F1 FP2 | 2025 Abu Dhabi GP | Norris tops FP2 in Abu Dhabi

As the sun set in the desert, normal service resumed as there were no rookies on track. In a crucial session for race data, Norris tops FP2 on the Yas Marina circuit.

Early games between Verstappen and Norris

As tension builds for the race, there was also tension on track, as a miscommunication on team radio caused Max Verstappen to impede Lando Norris. Lando Norris was not impressed on team radio.

Helmet trouble for Leclerc

Meanwhile, after a spin in FP1, Charles Leclerc had some issues with his helmet in FP2. He complained on the radio that the wind was getting into his eyes due to a problem with the vent.

Not all smooth sailing in Yas Marina

Oscar Piastri had a tricky session catching up after missing FP1. Struggling to get to grips with the car and having a lock up, he finished only P11. Meanwhile Hamilton struggled with stiff steering and Carlos Sainz had a weird snap into turn 2.

Close call in the pits

There was a close call in the pits as a Sauber was released into the way of Bearman during the session. One of the most dramatic pitlane exits on the Formula one calendar didn’t provide any entertainment today, but could see some action later in the weekend.

Decent session for Haas

It was a good session for the two Haas drivers, who at one point were topping the time sheets. Ollie Bearman put in a strong lap with a 1.23.968 on soft tyres and was delighted with his car set up.

Sauber finish in 5th and 6th

On the weekend where we say goodbye to the Sauber name after over 30 years, it was a great session for the team. Nico Hulkenberg finished in a strong P5 and Gabriel Bortoleto followed behind in P6.

Struggles for Ferrari

Unfortunately, Ferrari’s lack of pace seems to have continued as Charles Leclerc finished P8 in the session. Lewis Hamilton struggled throughout and ended the session in P14. Ferrari have work to do if they want a place on the podium on Sunday.

Norris tops FP2

On a weekend where he could clench the title, Lando Norris has had a solid day finishing on top in both free practice sessions. However, close behind in both sessions was his rival Max Verstappen finishing a close second.

With Oscar Piastri missing FP1 and struggling in FP2, he will have a lot of work to do to catch up. However, as we know with Formula 1 anything can happen and tomorrow is a new day.

FP2 Top 3

Lando Norris – 1.23.083

Max Verstappen – +0.363

George Russell – +0.379
