Damon Hill has responded to Helmut Marko’s criticism of Kimi Antonelli after the Qatar Grand Prix. Antonelli lost control of his Mercedes at Turn 9 on the penultimate lap, allowing Lando Norris to take fourth place. The position change increased Norris’s championship advantage over Max Verstappen from a potential 10 points to 12.

After the race, Marko accused Antonelli of aiding Norris, saying the Mercedes driver “more or less waved Lando by” twice. Marko later retracted the claim, stating he had reviewed the footage and concluded it was a driving error, not intentional. He added he was sorry Antonelli received online abuse.

Antonelli has since blacked out his social media profile picture. Reacting to Marko’s initial comments, Hill wrote on social media: “Well, I think we can rule out alcohol.”

Lewis Hamilton criticised the FIA’s handling of the 2025 Qatar Grand Prix after finishing P12 in a difficult weekend for Ferrari. He said the race was dull after a good first lap and argued the governing body lacked attention to detail.

Hamilton questioned why the FIA had not extended the DRS zone despite last year’s limited overtaking. He also highlighted the 26-second pit lane as unnecessarily long and said its layout could be shortened.

Hamilton noted the early pit-stops mandated by the 25-lap tyre limit and described Qatar as “one of the worst races” due to the lack of overtaking.

While praising the event’s hosting, he urged the FIA to find solutions to improve future editions, saying he imagined it was “pretty bad to watch.”
