Los Pampas completed a comfortable victory over Os Cobras on Sunday in São Paulo. The Buenos Aires side played faced paced rugby which saw them creating and capitalizing on opportunities as they won by 49-19 to join Los Dogos at the top of the Super Rugby Americas (SRA) standings.
Os Cobras had their moments, and did not play badly, but the class of Los Pampas was clear.It took just one minute for Los Pampas to score their opening try. Ignacio Díaz went over for a try converted by fly half, Bautista Farisé.
7-0 quickly became 14-0 as Juan Penoucos used his strength to score. However, Os Cobras recovered well to hit-back straight away. On 8 minutes, the Brazilian side went for a lineout to maul move with flanker Adrio de Melo scoring in the try zone.
The rapid-fire scoring was paused for twenty minutes before Adria de Melo went over for his second try. Argentine Julián Leszczynski converted for a 14-12 scoreline in favor of the Buenos Aires team.
Los Pampas’ lead was suddenly under threat. The rampaging Juan Penoucos scored a second try and Estanislao Renthel added the extras for a 21-12 lead. Then, on the stroke of half-time, Los Pampas secured a try-scoring bonus point. Ignacio Díaz went over for his season and the visitors were 28-12 at the interval.
Farisé recovered from the knock that forced him off to return. He converted three tries in the second-half. The first was scored by former Los Pumas 7’s player, Agustín Fraga. Adrio de Melo then completed a hat-trick by scoring his third try of the afternoon for the Brazilian side.
Os Cobras were unable to add to their three tries which meant they missed out on a bonus point. They also missed out on a losing bonus point.
Los Pampas wrapped up the victory with tries to fullback Estanislao Rental and replacement scrum-half Ramiro Manzo. The 30-point win sees Los Pampas well placed after five rounds of SRA 2026.
Both teams will play on the road in Week 6. Los Pampas travel to Santiago del Chile to face Selknam while Os Cobras visit Tucumán, Argentina to face Los Tarucas.
