The favourites to become new Crystal Palace manager emerge with Oliver Glasner reportedly ‘ready to leave’ earlier than planned.
Oliver Glasner suggested in his press conference that he could depart Palace imminently, insisting he is “just not good enough” to turn their fortunes around.
Talks are being held about his future at the club after Palace were held to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Conference League play-off against Zrinjski Mostar on Thursday.
It leaves Palace with just one win their last 15 games in all competitions, falling to within eight points of the drop zone and were knocked out of the FA Cup by non league Macclesfield.

Crystal Palace fans call for Oliver Glasner to go after 1-1 draw with Zrinjski
Speaking to the media before their match with Wolves, Glasner said: “I’m always realistic, and we’re not in the best moment right now. And to be honest, I understand, and I take responsibility for everything because I’m responsible for the whole team. And right now, I’m just not good enough to replace the players we sold. I’m just not good enough to integrate the new players in a way to play the same way like we did, and I’m not good enough that we can cope with the schedule we had.
“On the other side, I was good enough to play the best season ever, win two trophies and also to look back 32 points after 26 games – I look back because I like to look back sometimes – Crystal Palace has been better twice. Once was our season last year, and once in 2021. Never before it was more or less between 25 and 29 points all the time.
“It looks like even now when everybody is completely angry, disappointed, frustrated, we are playing a better Premier League season than eight of the last 10 seasons Crystal Palace has played. We play European football, and that is the reality.”
Glasner, who initially announced a few weeks back that he would depart the club this summer, spoke on his immediate future and if he feels he can lead the side until the end of the season:
“Let’s see. I always said [this] – and this wasn’t the first press conference where I could just repeat myself.
“As I said, eventually you always depend on your players, and they will get all the support like always, and then we will see.
On whether he wants to stay until the end of the season: “Let’s see what the future brings. You never know.”
On what needs to happen to ensure he’ll stay until the end of the season: “In football, it’s easy. As a manager, you will stay or be allowed to stay when the results are OK. Football is all about this, and the last months the results were not good. The performances were not consistently good and that’s it.”
On how to tough if has been to keep levels high as he knows he’s leaving: “No, never. That’s why I think I feel pretty open to talk about it now because the situation now it is never about Oliver Glasner. Oliver Glasner’s life will continue in the summer wherever, however it is. Crystal Palace’s life will continue but every player, most of our players have a contract next year and they perform for themselves to perform for Crystal Palace.
“The Conference League is maybe the only opportunity to play European football again. This would be outstanding. When you do one thing once in 120 years and you can do it back-to-back, this would be an incredible achievement – not for Oliver Glasner – for the players.
On if he has the drive to lead the club: “Yes, I think so, yes.”
On ensuring Palace are safe from relegation trouble before being able to focus their attention on their bid to try and win the Conference League:
“I don’t think Crystal Palace is pretty much safe when I see the teams behind us, when I see how they are performing, especially West Ham getting point after point and all the others as well.
“There are teams like Nottingham [Forest], who were seventh last year, teams like Tottenham who won the Europa League, teams like Brighton. Big teams with much more opportunities than Crystal Palace have.
“So I think it would be completely wrong to say we go all-in on the Conference League and forget about the Premier League. I think it’s an important game now against Wolverhampton.”

Here’s what fans are saying as the favourites to become new Crystal Palace manager emerge with Glasner ‘ready to leave’…
@jcreedy: Glasner seems to think that fans are giving him stick because we’re we’re not winning games and playing badly. Fans are giving him stick because he’s decided that he wants to leave, lied about contract talks for months, and we want people at the club that want to be here. #CPFC
@richard1198: [Keane] Done well abroad, always speak well, comes across as good motivator, could be a good move
@SGB100000: OMG YOU CANT REPLACE HIM WITH KEANE FML #CPFC @CEO4TAG
@PaulRoss787: Robbie Keane? Bit of a random one #cpfc
@Matt_Woody13: This always happens when the manager’s on his last legs. I want them gone but then I remember this club is run by morons. #CPFC
@stevebrookstein: I reckon Paddy McCarthy could see us through to the end of the season. He is a Palace man and will not make major changes. He will definitely dump Kamada and Sosa to the bench. #cpfc #GlasnerOut
@SE25CPFC12: If we get Ange. Mile comes home 😭😭🥹
@Jamesgcpfc: All so sad how this is ending but think most of us expected this after the summer transfer window just maybe not as drastically. Poor summer window then selling your captain in January and not replacing him is ridiculous #cpfc
@BrakePaul: Glasner brought the shit he’s getting on himself. Yes the board let him down but he really didnt need to come out with im leaving till the end of the season. Or the fact he said he didnt care. Fans were always gonna turn on him a bit after that. Plus result have been shit #cpfc
@TheEaglesNest25: This feels very “fans have been spoilt here in recent times”. We have. But that doesn’t change the fact that 1 win in 15 is unacceptable for any team. Not beating Larnica, KuPs, Macclesfield and Mostar is unacceptable for a Premier League team. #CPFC
@KennyCPFC: I just can’t wrap my head around how we’ve gone from the greatest season in Crystal Palace history to the state of the club now in less than a year. It’s so fucking sad man. #CPFC
@andylatts: So IF we sack Glasner now and we still lose to Wolves who we gunning for then, screaming for a sacking or to leave the club ? As always that insect walks away untouched and smelling like roses #cpfc
@HLTCO: I’ve said for a few weeks now that I feel Oliver Glasner’s time as our manager is over. He decided he was going to leave in October, made that news public in January despite the board telling him that it wouldn’t do any good and is now on a run of 1 win in 15 games in all competitions. I’ll always be incredibly grateful for what he has achieved as our manager, the FA Cup win legitimately felt like a life changing moment as a fan back in May of 2025 and still does now but I just don’t believe that he is now getting the best out of the group. Whether it’s just a tiny shift in intensity leading to poor results or something more serious, it now feels obvious that things aren’t going to improve particularly between now and the end of the season. Ultimately, however simplistic or basic it may sound, I believe that the manager of our football club should want to be there for the long haul, not just until his contract runs its course. I understood, in broad terms, the thought process behind not sacking him and allowing his deal to come to an end but it feels untenable from my point of view.
