Jonny Bairstow is currently playing for Yorkshire in the ongoing County Championship Division One 2025. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter is leading the Yorkshire team. He has been in fine form, scoring 359 runs from 10 innings at an average of 44.88.
One of his batting antics in Yorkshire’s most recent clash against Essex has gone viral on social media. The 35-year-old took the fans who flocked to the County Ground in Chelmsford as he held onto his pose while batting. In a video, Essex pacer Shane Snater can be seen bowling a couple of deliveries that went past Bairstow’s blade. The Bradford-born held onto his pose for a few seconds after the ball went through to wicketkeeper Michael Pepper.
The moment has been garnering some attention on social media, with a few cheeky reminders coming in from fans as Bairstow had been at the receiving end of a highly contentious stumping after strolling out his crease during the Lord’s Test of Ashes 2023.

Bairstow was dismissed cheaply in the first innings. However, he scored a fluent 79 off 74 balls in the second innings. The match ended in a thrilling draw with Yorkshire failing to take Essex’s last wicket in the fourth innings. Yorkshire’s Adam Lyth proved to be the star batter in the contest as he registered scores of 58 and 185 in the two innings. Meanwhile, George Hill was the star bowler in the contest as he bagged six and three wickets in the two innings, respectively.
“We dominated the game. Look, to get them nine down on day four, it’s a bloomin’ good game of Division One cricket. These guys have been at the top of the table, or in and around it, for a period of time now. So to take them on and play in the way that we have here (is very pleasing). Lythy getting his 185, George Hill getting nine wickets in the game, they’re special performances. We’re getting closer,” Bairstow told Yorkshire after the riveting clash.
Yorkshire are currently placed at No. 8 on the points table. They have one win and two losses from five matches. Yorkshire have 53 points so far. Meanwhile, Essex, who have 61 points, are stationed at No. 5 on the points tally. They have one win and one loss from five games.
