Fizik adds to its helmet range with the mid-priced Kyros

Fizik’s new Kyros helmet adds a mid-price offering to its growing helmet range. The Kyros is designed for use on road, gravel and XC MTB rides and is priced at £169.99, which is £100 less than the range-topping Kudo and Kudo Aero.

While Fizik’s high-end Kudo and Kudo Aero road/gravel helmets and the Kunee time-trial helmet use Mips Air, which integrates the sliding elements into the helmet’s padding, the new Kyros has a more conventional Mips Evolve Core liner with a full internal insert.

Despite this change, there’s a family resemblance to the Kudo. Fizik claims that there’s plenty of airflow thanks to an array of vents that includes slot vents in the helmet’s brow. It has designed the helmet’s side vents to be sunglass-friendly and there’s a wide rear aperture that incorporates a reflector.

This can be swapped for a rear LED light, although unlike with Fizik’s top-end helmet, this is an extra cost item priced at £29.99 / $32.99 / €29.00, rather than coming with the helmet.

New helmet shape

Fizik has refined its helmet shape and fit system with a more rounded shape that it claims should be a better fit for more riders. It’s a helmet that I have found comfortable with minimal adjustment, but there are multiple options to change the fit of the full internal cradle.

The Kyros has the same crown-fit adjustment system as Fizik’s higher priced helmets, which were launched last year. This allows you to anchor the cradle in three different positions to fine-tune the inside shape of the helmet to suit your head shape. There’s also multi-position vertical adjustment of the rear cradle, which has a large dial adjuster.

The webbing helmet straps have a Y-splitter that can be adjusted to choose where the straps sit below the ears, although the chin straps are separate pieces anchored on the splitters, so you can’t adjust the splitters themselves up or down.

Fizik quotes a 275g weight for a size small, 295g for a medium and 325g for a large in CE certified spec, with the CPSC spec adding around 20g to this. My size large helmet weighs 334g.

The Fizik Kyros helmet is priced at £169.99 / $199.99 / €190 and available in four colours.
