Floyd Mayweather Shows Physique at 49; Insider Reveals Training Details — ‘He Beats Him Easier’

Floyd Mayweather showed fans recently that, despite approaching 50 years old, he appears to remain in fighting fit shape, with well-defined arms and pectoral muscles to go along with his trademark abs.

It comes at a time when he’s not only announced a return to boxing, but a rematch against his career rival Manny Pacquiao whom he bested in 2015 to create the best-selling combat sports pay-per-view in history, and confirmed Monday that he’ll take part in an exhibition in the coming months, too.

“I already fought and beat Manny once,” Mayweather said in a statement sent to Boxing Social on February 23.

The Hall-of-Fame fighters collide September 19 for the first-ever boxing event held at The Sphere in Las Vegas. Boxing Social understands that Pacquiao insisted Mayweather put his unbeaten record on the line, which is why this is a fully sanctioned fight rather than an exhibition.

Mayweather, though, is unfazed.

“This time will be the same result.”

Ahead of the Pacquiao fight, Mayweather will make another stop on the exhibition circuit when he takes on Mike Zambidis at the Telekom Center in Athens, Greece for an event dubbed ‘Battle of the Legends.’ It takes place in June, per Mayweather’s own announcement on Instagram.

Ahead of these events, he showed that, even in the time away from the ring, he still looks every bit the athlete. “I ain’t gotta flex,” Mayweather said, just before tightening his bicep. “Money May all day.”

An insider at the Mayweather Boxing Gym, a facility Floyd owns and operates from the Chinatown district in Las Vegas, and which has been the home for younger fighters like teenage phenom Curmel Moton, welterweight champion Rolando Romero, and, previously, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, also lifted the lid on Mayweather’s recent training sessions at the club.

With the passing of Mayweather’s uncle Roger, and his father, Floyd Sr increasing in age, Mayweather Boxing Club coach Otis Pimpleton has stepped up to assist Floyd not only with the general training that goes on with athletes at the gym but for Mayweather, too, as he navigates the exhibition scene and also his return to the pro beat, too.

“Floyd came out and said, ‘Look, you’re all I got. You’re family … so we got to go ahead and make this stuff happen.’ So we’ve been doing that,” Templeton said to Fight Hype.

“When he’s training for Pacquiao, we’re going to turn it up another level … I still work with him with the pads, the body bag, and the hand pads … Floyd is back in boxing.”

On the Pacquiao rematch, specifically, Pimpleton said: “You constantly want to test your skills against someone of your status. And with Floyd … one thing we’re going to do is do whatever it takes to win. Boxing needs these two guys to put on a show.

“You can’t relate Manny’s performance against [Mario] Barrios to what it’ll be like fighting Floyd because he’s slicker than grease. Floyd is smooth and probably beats him easier than he did the first time.”
