Joao Fonseca and Fabian Marozsan will square off on Wednesday at the Miami Masters, with the winner to face Carlos Alcaraz. Ethan Quinn and Hubert Hurkacz are also taking the court on Day 1.
Fabian Marozsan vs. Joao Fonseca
Fonseca and Marozsan will be going head-to-head for the second time in their careers and for the second time in round one of a Masters 1000 tournament when they collide at the Miami Open on Wednesday. They previously met last spring in Rome, where Marozsan prevailed 6-3, 7-6(4).

There is a good chance that revenge is in store for Fonseca, who — as we saw in 2025 — might as well be playing in Brazil. The 19-year-old gets a ton of support everywhere, but it’s on a different level in Miami. He is playing well, too, having reached the Indian Wells fourth round before pushing eventual champion Jannik Sinner to two tiebreakers. Marozsan is 1-5 in his last six matches, and his slump is likely to continue.
Pick: Fonseca in 2
Ethan Quinn vs. Hubert Hurkacz
Quinn is on a hot streak to begin the 2026 campaign and is up to a career-high ranking of No. 56 in the world. The 22-year-old advanced to round three at the Australian Open and is coming off a title at a 175-point Challenger event in Phoenix this past week.
Up first for Quinn on Wednesday is Hurkacz, who got clobbered in their only previous encounter 6-4, 7-6(5), 6-1 at Melbourne Mark. The 29-year-old Pole has not recovered. His loss to Quinn kicked off what is currently a six-match losing streak, with five of Hurkacz’s losses coming in straight sets. Count on Quinn remaining on a roll.
