The Hundred is a fast-paced and action-packed cricket tournament designed to attract a wider audience to the sport. The 2024 edition kicks off on July 23rd, featuring eight city-based teams battling it out for the coveted trophy. Here’s a comprehensive breakdown of everything you need to know about The Hundred 2024:
The Hundred 2024 Format
As the name suggests, The Hundred revolves around a unique 100-ball format. Each team gets one innings to score as many runs as possible within 100 balls. To keep things exciting, bowlers can bowl either five or ten balls in a row, with a captain-imposed maximum of 20 balls per bowler per innings.
There’s a strategic twist as well. The first 25 balls of each innings are designated as a powerplay, where only two fielders are allowed outside the 30-yard circle, creating a window for batsmen to go big.
Fans in India can also officially bet on The Hundred using the multifaceted website 1win. 1 win is one of India’s largest in-demand bookmaker websites, where you can bet on The Hundred 2024 and many other cricketing and non cricketing matches. The tournament follows a group stage format with each team playing eight matches. This includes facing six teams once and their local rival twice. The group stage concludes on August 15th, paving the way for the knockout stages.
The top team from the group stage earns a direct ticket to the final at Lord’s on August 18th. The second and third-placed teams will face-off in the Eliminator on August 17th at the Kia Oval, with the winner joining the topper in the final showdown.
In case of a tie during the Eliminator or the final, The Hundred utilizes a thrilling “Super Five” format. Similar to a Super Over in T20 cricket, both teams get five balls to score the most runs. However, unlike T20, a tied Super Five will be followed by another five-ball round if necessary. If both Super Fives are tied, the team with a higher position in the group stage will be declared the winner.
