Former Indian batting coach drops a huge praise for Yashasvi Jaiswal

Former India cricketer Sanjay Bangar has praised young batter Yashasvi Jaiswal’s temperament and caliber, saying he is one of the all-timers greats, Sunil Gavaskar. Jaiswal has had a wonderful beginning to his Test career after he debuted last year during the tour of West Indies. In 16 Tests, he has smashed four hundreds and eight fifties, which already has him amassing well over 1500 runs so far. According to Bangar, it is the neither dying hunger for making big runs or keeping their feet on the ground, thereby Jaiswal raised from the rags to riches.

“Two things [make Jaiswal special]. One is that he is extremely sound technically, and that means that he’s got a great foundation for him to work his way up. Then the temperament part [has been there since] very early in his career. He’s gone through lots of ups and downs in his personal life as well,” Bangar said on Star Sports.

“In cricket, he believes a lot. He has worked hard to climb up the ladder, and his hunger for runs of big scores always defines him as a batsman. Now, who would an earlier batter resemble him? We have to go quite a long way back to someone like a Sunil Gavaskar,” he added.

Jaiswal smashed a century in the second innings of the first Test against Australia, laying the foundation for a 295-run victory for India in Perth. He has also endured unreliable performances during the series, having obtained two ducks and a 24 in three other innings.

Since India is still battling for a place in the WTC final, his form, particularly since senior players have still to fire in this series, will be crucial.

The opening day of the ongoing 3rd Test in Brisbane was washed out, with only 13.2 overs bowled.
