Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary has advocated for the introduction of a domestically scoring machine in the Indian team set up. After the humiliating defeat of India, who managed to score only 46 runs in a Test match against New Zealand, Tiwary has raised concern about the position of KL Rahul in the Indian team. Citing the case of Sarfaraz Khan doing wonders for the Indian team, Tiwary has informed that India must look to try out Abhimanyu Easwaran in India playing XI soon. Easwaran has also scored four centuries in four of his last first-class matches.
Tiwary highlighted the fact that Rahul has not been able to maintain a good Test batting average and went on to suggest why Easwaran should be included in the squad.
“The figures that you presented are certainly below par, however, having played 91 innings, one cannot have an average of 33.98. There are a number of batters in the country who are doing well even in domestic tournaments,” Tiwary said on the Cricbuzz channel.
“To begin with, there should be such performances on an ongoing basis, and that cut-off should be in the ratio of 1:3,” Tiwary states.
Tiwary himself, during the height of his career, scored an ODI hundred and was subsequently dropped straight away.
Tiwary observed that if Sarfaraz was able to play at No. 4, after being moved up the order, Aghewaran can also be tried at the middle order position even though he plays as an opener in India’s domestic circuit.
“If you see his (Easwaran’s) numbers, in the last few matches he played, hardly any innings, he did not score a hundred. So bring him in and try him in the middle-order batter as he is in form. Why not?” Tiwary further added.
As of late, Easwaran, who played under Tiwary previously while representing Bengal, scored an impressive 191 for Rest of India against Mumbai in the ongoing Irani Cup 2024.
India has an Easwaran formerly as she traveled on a standby basis previously.
