The Kenya cricket team has chosen Dodda Ganesh, a former fast bowler from India, as their new head coach. Ganesh, who bowled with his right arm, participated in four Test matches and one One Day International, taking five wickets in total.
Ganesh expressed his honor on X (previously known as Twitter) by saying, “Privileged to be named the head coach of the Kenya cricket team.”
Currently, Ganesh has been offered a one-year contract.
Upon his introduction at the Sikh Union Club, Ganesh stated, “My primary goal is to help the team qualify for the World Cup,” as reported by Nation.
Kenya has taken part in five World Cup events so far: four One Day International (ODI) World Cups in 1996, 1999, 2003, and 2011, and one Twenty20 (T20) World Cup in 2007. Their highest achievement in these events was in 2002, when they made it to the semi-finals.
Ganesh mentioned, “Kenya joined the World Cup competitions in 1996, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2011. I witnessed their commitment and effort. I’m not sure what changed over the past decade, but I prefer not to dwell on the past. What I see positively is that Kenyans have a champion spirit.”
Ganesh played cricket in India for the Karnataka team and got 365 wickets in 104 important matches, with an average of 29.42. He got five wickets in one match 20 times. He also played 89 other games and got 128 wickets with an average of 27.11.
Kenya will play in the ICC World Cup Challenge League in September at their home. Other teams like Papua New Guinea, Denmark, Kuwait, Jersey, and Qatar will also play in this competition.
The 51-year-old coach said, “I am a professional coach. Before coming here, I watched the players on YouTube and I can say they are in good shape,” talking about his first job as Kenya’s coach.
