Former Indian wicketkeeper drops a massive bombshell on the IPL uncapped rule for 2025

Former Indian cricket team wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik completely supported IPL governing body’s decision to allow MS Dhoni to play as an ‘uncapped’ cricketer in the upcoming season. Well, there is a change in retention rules, as any player who has not donned Indian colors in the last five years will henceforth be called uncapped and can be kept cheaper. That sounds fine for Chennai Super Kings who are most likely to use this rule to keep back their former captain MS Dhoni and Karthik is of the opinion that this rule was made only for one man. “People speak openly about it as well as I am in full support of this rule.

Not all about everyone, but this one woman rule I completely support it and am in favour. This one person has probably been the single most effective individual in the IPL history. If everyone is happily placed whether BCCI or any of the teams, or how the league has been over the years, and how it has made people content for 15-18 years, it is him,” he opined to Cricbuzz.

Not that it matters, everybody understands how this penalty comes down. This Veteran cricketer since the inception of IPL has taken part in almost every successful season they had. In fact, if we are to go deep into the years, it goes to over a decade and a half,” he added, rather directed to Dhoni

Dhoni had officially retired from international cricket in 2020 but the last time he played a match for India was in July 2019. This was an ODI world cup semi-final in which India played against New Zealand, which India lost.

“A capped Indian player will become uncapped if the player has in the last five calendar years preceding the year in which the relevant Season is held, not played in the starting XI in International Cricket (Test match, ODI, Twenty20 International) or does not have a Central Contract with BCCI. This will be applicable for Indian Players only,” an IPL Statement said.
