Former NBA Lottery Pick Cam Reddish Gets Second Shot With The San Diego Clippers

In life, it is all about second chances. At times, they are not guaranteed to everyone, so when you  get the opportunity, you’d better make it count.

That is the mindset of former NBA player and 2019 lottery draft pick Cam Reddish.

After a year away playing in Lithuania (LKL), Reddish, 26, has returned to the stateside, signing  with the San Diego Clippers in the NBA G League a couple of weeks ago.

Cam Reddish’s Introduction to the NBA G-League

So far, Reddish has completed four games this season, averaging 9.3 ppg, 5.0 rpg, and 1.5 apg with shooting splits of 50/35/100 in only 17.8 mpg. For a full-time starter, those are average numbers, especially for an NBA-level player like Reddish, but with limited time on the court, they are high-impact numbers.

After his debut versus the College Park Skyhawks on January 31, Reddish spoke about how he is still finding his rhythm and stamina on the basketball court:

“I definitely was a little bit tired, having been about two to three months since I played a game. I’ll definitely get better over the next couple of weeks—I know I will—so I’m not too concerned about that. I’m just trying to do what I can to continue to get wins,” Reddish said in a postgame video with Clippers reporter BJ Mathews.

The Clippers defeated the Skyhawks, with Reddish scoring 11 points and grabbing six rebounds, going 4-for-5 from the field, and delivering a couple of highlight plays.

A week from his debut game, he has spoken what he said into existence. The Clippers are 3-1 so far with Reddish on the team, and head coach Paul Hewitt is gradually bringing him along while recognizing his caliber as a player.

“Obviously, we’re pleased he chose to come to the Clippers. He brings tremendous potential as a lottery pick who played at the highest level of college basketball. He is setting a good example with his actions, but when he gets more comfortable, I’m pretty sure he will be more verbal,” Hewitt said after their win over the Hawks.

A Fresh Start

Basketball is as much mental as it is physical. At times, that comes with getting the opportunity to press the reset button. Reddish also spoke about what he has learned from being away from the NBA this past year and about his road back there.

“When you’re in isolation, you grow a lot, you learn a lot, you think a lot. I love basketball; no matter where I go, I want to play. It’s been a hell of a journey, and I’m looking forward to what’s next,” Reddish said to Mathews.

Reddish, referring to his brief stint in the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) during the 2025–26 season, averaged 14.7 ppg, 3.8 rpg, and 1.4 apg while playing 26.4 mpg. Playing overseas is not always an easy adjustment for American players, but those who can do so, even for one season, come back with a more mature perspective on life.

What’s next for Reddish?

Reddish is in an extraordinary situation. He is still young at 26 years old and has multiple years of NBA experience. This is an opportunity for him to fine-tune his game and iron out some of the wrinkles.

“My conditioning—I have defended at the highest level. Everyone knows I can score, but right now it’s about finding the role that can help the team win,” Reddish emphasized.

As the season progresses, Reddish will become more comfortable and assertive on and off the court, which will benefit him and his team.

Suppose Reddish can continue to keep his strengths while finding ways to improve other areas of his game. Maybe a season turnaround for the Clippers and some team success. There will be no question that the 6’7” talented wing will find his way back onto the big stage in the NBA.
