The Los Angeles Rams wasted no time attacking their secondary issues this offseason as they re-signed Kam Curl and brought in a pair of Kansas City Chiefs cornerbacks in Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson.
The secondary was the Rams’ biggest issue last season, but they have no seemingly turned it into a strength going into the 2026 campaign.
With the Rams making multiple additions at cornerback though, that means they won’t be able to retain their free agents at the position, most notably Cobie Durant.
He is coming off a quality season with L.A. and will be rewarded by signing a free agent contract with the Dallas Cowboys, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN:
The Cowboys plan to sign cornerback Cobie Durant to a one-year deal, sources tell @toddarcher and me.

Durant originally was a fourth round draft pick of the Rams in 2022 out of South Carolina State. In 61 games (39 starts) across four seasons with the team, he had 141 total tackles, two sacks, seven interceptions and 26 passes defenses. He had a career year in 2025, appearing in all 17 games and recording 40 total tackles, three interceptions and seven passes defensed.
Lack of size has been an issue for Durant, but he made up for that with his toughness and ball hawk skills, always seeming to make big plays for the Rams.
While losing him will be tough, there’s no doubt that the Rams have made the necessary moves to improve their secondary this offseason.
Kam Curl excited about Rams’ secondary additions
Kam Curl, who signed a new three-year contract to stay with the Rams, is among those excited about the team’s new additions in the secondary.
“I’ll see them in the building real soon, but just seeing those moves that the Rams made, it just got me excited to go play with those guys, those big playmakers. And we’re just trying to have the No. 1 defense this season and I feel like with the guys we’ve got in the room now and on the defensive side of the ball, we’ve got a good chance to do that.”
