Karthik pointed out that Rohit’s poor form with the bat made leading the team more difficult
India lost the second Test against New Zealand by 113 runs and the series 2-0, with one match still to play, marking their first home series defeat in 12 years. Rohit Sharma’s captaincy is being criticized, with Dinesh Karthik being the latest to raise concerns.
On Cricbuzz, Karthik said that Rohit’s captaincy wasn’t at its best. He pointed out that Rohit did his best, but things didn’t work out for India.
“Not at his best. I thought he had a very tough Test match, he did all he could. I think there is a lot of pressure on him, I could see, because as a team, whatever they tried, it didn’t come through really well,” said Dinesh Karthik.

Karthik also said that Rohit Sharma might reflect on his decisions in the match and wonder if he reacted to situations instead of staying ahead of them. He also pointed out that Rohit’s poor form with the bat made leading the team more difficult, hurting their overall performance and rhythm.
“And add to the fact that he didn’t get runs, must have really hurt him. So overall it wasn’t his best test match. It will be a Test match where he will reflect and think to himself, “What could I have done better? Was I a reactive captain or proactive captain?” There’s always for fine line there, you need to be always on the money in international cricket to get the results consistently.
He tried his best, I would say, with whatever he could, but when you look at the context of the game, you have to say, it wasn’t his best game, neither for him, nor for team India,” he concluded.

Rohit is experiencing a tough time with the bat. In the two Test matches against New Zealand, he has managed just one fifty in four innings, with the other three scores being 2, 0, and 8. In the previous Test series against Bangladesh, he only scored 42 runs across two matches.
India must win the Mumbai Test to stay in the race for the WTC Final
India are currently trailing 2-0 in the home series against New Zealand after losses in Bengaluru and Pune, which has been a significant setback for the team. The third Test match will take place in Mumbai starting on November 1, and India must win this match to keep their hopes alive for the World Test Championship final.
Additionally, they face another tough challenge with an upcoming five-match Test series against Australia in Australia. To qualify for the WTC final, India needs to win 4 out of the 6 Test matches, including the one in Mumbai.
